The Dot X application #

Welcome to Dot X! The heart of the operations for your Decker device. This is the main view where you’ll be able to see the programs you’ve configured for the sliders, their volume levels and the connection state of the Decker device.

In the top right, you’ll find the settings menu by clicking the cog wheel icon.
The “+” signs under the sliders will open the slider action menu for the selected slider.
The sliders themselves will react to the input from your Decker device in real time.

You may close this window and Dot X will minimize to tray and still be active.

Dot X v1.2.0

Connecting the Decker device #

To connect your Decker device to Dot X, start by plugging in the USB-C cable to your Decker and computer. Proceed by clicking the cog in the top right corner, under the “Device” dropdown you should find the Decker device. Select it to make Dot X connect to the device.

That’s all. Now that your device is connected, let’s go to the next section to actually control some volume!

Add applications to sliders #

To assign applications to your sliders, start by pressing the “+” sign under the slider you wish to configure.

You will see this window pop up which is where you’ll do all the slider configurations. In the list you’ll see all active audio sessions. That means all programs that Windows are currently recognizing as outputting audio. If you’re not seeing your application here, it could mean that it hasn’t been outputting any sound after you booted Windows. To make your application appear in the list, try to start a song in Spotify or joining a voice chat in Discord – That should make them appear in the list! However, if the app still doesn’t appear in the list, you can search for it in all your installed applications by checking “All Apps” and scrolling through the list or using the search function. Select as many applications as you wish to control for the selected slider by ticking the tick box next to the application name.

Dot X will now control the application volume for the selected application(s)!

Controlling system utilities #

In the v1.2.0 we introduced even more control, this time for the input and output devices on your computer. Press the “+” sign and select the System Utilities tab.

In the system utilities tab, you’ll find the following selections

  • Output – Output devices in Windows. Speakers, headsets, virtual outputs, etc.
  • Input – Input devices in Windows. Microphones, line in, virtual inputs, etc.
  • Unmapped – Controlling this will set the volume for all applications that aren’t assigned to other sliders. This way you don’t have to add every game you play, you can simply use the unmapped utility!
  • Active Window – Sets the volume for the application of the currently focused window.
  • Screen brightness – Sets the screen brightness level – As of Dot X v1.2.0 this will set the screen brightness for all available monitors, but in the future this will be extended to configuring which monitors to control.

Press one of the features to activate them for the currently selected slider. Some of the features will have additional customization so make sure to scroll down and set them. As of Dot X v1.2.0 that applies to Output and Input features.

When selecting Output or Input, Dot X will by default follow the default device. If you don’t change it, Dot X will set the volume for whatever the default device is and Dot X will detect when the default device changes. If you wish to define which specific Output or Input to control, you need to change this in the dropdown menus that appear at the bottom of the Slider Action menu when selecting Output and/or Input features. If you don’t want Dot X to follow the default device, make sure to deselect it when specifying which device to control!

MIDI #

Dot X supports MIDI using a virtual MIDI port. This section only explains how to assign the MIDI function to a slider. If you need to set up MIDI with Dot X, please refer to the MIDI with Dot X instruction.

When MIDI with Dot X has been configured, you can enable the MIDI Slider Action by navigating to the “Midi” tab and clicking the “MIDI DISABLED” button to enable it. You can specify the channel and CC value if you wish to do so, or you can use it with the default settings.

Green slider knobs in Dot X means they have MIDI functionality enabled!

Customizing the slider action labels #

If you have many applications bound or advanced functions it can get messy and unclear what the sliders are controlling. That’s why we added the “Settings” tab in the Slider Action menu.

Choose from a custom text field where you can name the slider action label yourself, a descriptive icon from the icons library or a custom image imported from your computer. Note that images cannot be larger than 100x50px.

Look at this as an example!

RGB control #

The Decker has 8 individually addressable LEDs illuminating the underside. As of Dot X v1.2.0, there are pre-defined RGB effects, but in future we want to add the ability to make your own effects as well. The currently available effects are the follwing:

  • Off – Darkness.
  • Static – A constant RGB color of your choosing – And an optional breathing effect with customizable speed.
  • Rainbow – All the beautiful colors of the rainbow with customizable speed.
  • Candle – Meant to look like a candle gently blowing in the wind with customizable speed.
  • Lightning storm – Sets the mood of a rainy night with a thunder storm
  • Perimeter – You spin me right ’round!

The effects all have customizable brightness level.

You find the RGB settings by clicking the cog in the top right corner and changing the “RGB Effect”.

Note that depending on the RGB effect you choose there might be additional settings to configure. If there are, they will appear automatically below the RGB effect dropdown menu.
