Replacing the knobs on your Decker is a straightforward process, but taking your time and following the correct steps will help you avoid damage and ensure a perfect fit and feel. This guide walks you through the entire process.
Step 1: Prepare the Tools #
Before getting started, gather everything you need:

- Replacement knobs – Ensure they are 4mm fader-compatible.
- Knob removal tool – Included with the knob replacement kit.
- If you don’t have the included tool, you can print one yourself.

- (Optional) Knob case – A case to store removed knobs, since you may want to reuse them in the future.

Make sure you’re working on a clean, flat surface with good lighting. A soft mat or towel under the unit can protect both Decker and the knobs from drops or scratches during the process.
Step 2: Remove the Existing Knobs #

This part is all about patience and precision.
- Slide all faders to the top – This gives you the most access and space for removal.
- Start from one side – Work left to right (or right to left), one knob at a time.
- Insert the tool – Position the knob removal tool under the edge of the knob. Slide it fully underneath until it feels secure.
- Lift gently – Apply gentle upward force to the top of the tool, away from the knob. This will begin to lift the knob.
- If it feels stuck, do not force it. Try inserting the tool from the opposite side of the knob.
- Be mindful – knobs can pop off suddenly. Cup your hand around the knob to avoid it flying across the room.
- After removal – Slide the fader down before proceeding to the next one.
Repeat until all the knobs are removed.

Step 3: Mount the New Knobs #
Now for the satisfying part—installing the new knobs.
- Move all faders back up to the top.
- Prepare your new knobs – Confirm that they are 4mm fader-compatible.
- These knobs fit snugly on the metal fader stems.
- For detailed compatibility specs, refer to our knob compatibility guide.
- Start from one side – Line up the knob with the fader stem (the metal stick).
- Apply firm but gentle pressure from the top, centered directly over the stem.
- Avoid pressing from an angle, as this can bend the metal or misalign the knob.
- Special care for center knobs – If these are hard to press down you can support the back of the PCB with one finger to create counter-pressure and reduce stress on the board.
- Check knob heights – Once all knobs are installed, inspect from the side.
- If any knob sits lower than the others, use the removal tool to gently lift it until it’s level.
Final Tips #
- Avoid using metal tools, which may scratch the surface or damage the PCB.
- Do not force any knob into place. If it feels wrong, double-check compatibility or alignment.
- Store removed knobs in the knob case (or another safe container)—you may want to reuse them in the future.
