We’re excited to announce that the firmware used in Dot X-compatible devices is now open source!
To clarify up front:
This does not include the firmware for Decker β only the open Dot X-compatible firmware that already can be flashed via flasher.dotmatrixlabs.com.
By open-sourcing this, we want to lower the barrier to entry so anyone with an Arduino Uno, ESP32, Pi Pico or similar board can get started with Dot X β our GUI for picking programs or system features the hardware controller should control. The firmware reads analog slider input and sends it directly to Dot X.
Source code is now live on GitHub
Why We’re Doing This
Weβve heard from many of you who want to build custom controllers with other microcontrollers or experiment with the device firmware. By open sourcing the firmware, we hope to:
- Encourage DIY projects and experimentation
- Make Dot X easier to integrate with custom hardware
- Let the community help shape whatβs next
Speaking of what’s next β we’re actively planning new Dot X features. You can see what weβre working on or leave suggestions on our roadmapπ
A massive thank you to everyone who’s supported us so far β we can’t wait to see what you build!
